Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor & Security Lighting in Calgary

Outdoor lighting in Calgary has to do two jobs: look right in July and still work in February. Most of what fails out there fails because it was specified for a milder climate.

Who it’s for

Anyone who has come home in December to a dark driveway. Homeowners who want the yard to look like something after dark. And people who have realised that the cheapest home security improvement is usually a light that comes on when someone walks up the side of the house.

Safer homes.

Help keep your family and property protected.

Better visibility.

See clearly at night, no dark corners.

More confidence.

A well lit property discourages intruders.

What’s included

Security lighting

motion-activated fixtures at doors, driveways, garages and side yards

Photocell lighting

fixtures that switch themselves on at dusk and off at dawn, without a timer to reset twice a year

Low-voltage landscape lighting

path, garden and feature lighting, with transformers and runs sized properly

Soffit and eave lighting

Garage, shed and detached structure lighting

including circuits run to detached garages

Exterior outlets

including block heater outlets and weatherproof covers rated for use with something plugged in

Repair and replacement

of outdoor lighting that has stopped working — which in this city is usually a moisture or connection problem, not a bulb

What to expect

  1. We walk the property with you.

Where you want light, where you’d notice its absence, and where a fixture will just annoy the neighbours.

  2. We specify for the climate.

Fixtures and enclosures rated for wet locations and our temperature range, with connections made so meltwater doesn’t find them.

  3. We plan the runs.

Buried low-voltage runs get placed where future landscaping won’t cut them.

  4. We install, test and set it up.

Motion sensitivity, timing and photocell behaviour adjusted with you there, rather than left on factory defaults.

SECURITY STARTS WITH A BRIGHTER TOMORROW.

Questions we get asked

Will low-voltage landscape lighting survive a Calgary winter?

Properly specified and properly buried, yes. Failures are almost always undersized transformers, poor connections, or runs laid too shallow.

Motion sensor or photocell?

Motion for security, photocell for presence. Most homes want both — motion at the doors and side yards, photocell for the front of the house and the path.

My outdoor outlet stopped working. Is that a big job?

Usually not. It’s often a tripped GFCI somewhere else in the house, or moisture in the box. Worth checking your bathroom and garage GFCIs before you call — sometimes that’s the whole fix.

Can you run power to a detached garage?

Yes. It’s a permitted job, and how involved it is depends on the distance and what the garage will run — a light and an outlet is a different job from a workshop or an EV charger.

A SAFER PROPERTY STARTS OUTSIDE.
